As a conservative and a strong supporter of Free-Enterprise - I support business and industry, job creation and corporations that bless, benefit and help their area. In my opinion - Indian Gaming does not do this. They do not pay taxes, they do not abide by most rules and requirements that other free-market businesses abide by and they play up their minority and/or set-aside status. EXACTLY the opposite of my views and beliefs. I do not advocate for OR support 'set-asides, bail-outs, freebies or subsidies'. In my opinion - the tactics used by Tribes for the purpose of gaming and casinos is a detriment to society in many directions - and worse yet - education was supposed to be the sole beneficiary of the funds from gaming and the best I can read/research/find on the subject shows very little going into education - less than 5% and that is crazy - a direct lie to the citizens of CA. Tribal Gaming is ok in and of itself - what I oppose is gaming shoved down our throat even when the community disagrees.
If the community is in favor - that is another story - my job as YOUR State Assembly Representative is to support things you see as beneficial to your community and oppose those you see as harmful as long as all of it lines up with the US Constitution. Gaming is no exception. The Tribes have been given rights and they should exercise those rights - but do so at the will and support of WE the people. That is truly the bottom line of the measurement. If WE the people like what is happening - then WE the people will support it. In the case of this casino on/near the 101 - WE the people do not support it in over-whelming percentages therefore it should stop and not be shoved into existence anyway. End of Story!
